This toilet paper is comparable in quantity and size to the tradional Scott rolls: 1000 1-ply sheets, decent strength, no fragrance, no pattern and a good balance between scratch and fluffy. Marcal uses no bleach nor dyes nor fragrance and claims 80% post-consumer paper (Green Forest hits 90%). The big difference? Price: 14¢ per 100 sheets compared to 16¢ per 100 sheets for Scott and 33¢ for Green Forest (prices from Gristedes in
NYC).
I like saving the environment. And I like saving money. Marcal's Small Steps products let me do both. I'm really impressed that an established company does so much to embrace using recycled paper. I don't see Scott, Proctor & Gamble or any other company that's been around for a long time making any effort to roll out recycled paper lines. Marcal competes with those companies more than it does Seventh Generation or Green Forest, so maybe those big companies will get a clue when companies like Marcal succeed. But enough about the socioeconomic reasons...
