Charming Wine Country B&B
I had the pleasure of spending a night at the Melitta Station B&B in Santa Rosa one night this weekend. It is currently operated by an older English couple -- Tim and Jackie are charming and gracious hosts. The inn was built in the 19th c and operated as an inn on the main county road from about 1880. It was renovated and reopened as a B&B in 1987 and currently operates entirely under solar power. They do their best to use all green and earth-friendly products.
The building is charming -- the construction reminds me of my grandparents late 19th c. farm house -- wooden floors, five-panel doors, clawfoot tub, iron bed frames and a community area with large wooden tables and comfortable chairs. There's a deck off the dining area, as well as a small garden off the downstairs spa area with jaccuzzi. The inn was always situated on a busy road -- Montgomery road has some traffic during the say, along with cyclists and walkers, but it is fairly quiet at night. A suburb has grown up along one side of the inn -- for several miles -- the other side is Annadel State Park.
The have water from a natural aquifer that is part of the Annadel watershed -- the water is not chlorinated, but irradiated -- and it tastes better than any tap water I have had in California!
Jackie cooks up breakfast and was very good about accommodating dietary restrictions -- she had planned a delicious but non-vegan breakfast for the guests, but made me up Bubble & Squeak with a side of two baked apples stuffed with white raisins.
The room was comfortable and the hosts were lovely. I would happily stay here again.
