Ayurvedic toothpaste.
This is an excellent product--it works well. The meswak is an astringent for the gums to tighten them, it cleans plaque and sticky food residue from the teeth well, foam created is a good viscosity (thickness) to brush with--clings to teeth, the product has a pleasant taste, and is non-fluoridated. I and my family all continue to use it. We find consistently good quality from Dabur products...I have tested a good number.

First, many ayurvedic toothpastes fail to show ingredients. Meswak is one of the few that does but it contains a few no-nos, saccharin and sodium lauryl sulfate. If there is one place you definetly want to eliminate these chemicals, it is in your mouth where they stay in contact with very permeable membranes.
I use Jason Naturals toothpaste, has the same feel as some ayurvedic ones but with ingredients I like, like spirulina.

For years my breath has been so bad that no one dare kiss me. In fact, my breath inadvertently started the SARS epidemic... long story. This magical root plant that is related to liquorish is incredible and actually has tons of healing properties and leaves ones breath purely magical, and it taste amazing. I tried eating it once - it was okay. When I breathe now little fairies come out and fly around the room casting smiling spells on everyone. Try Meeeeeeeswak! It's rumored that Dr. Patel in SF has the only secret stash that exist anywhere! http://www.sfgreendentist.com/

Meswak is a natural herbal ingredient that is said to have several dozen different health benefits -- like strengthening your gums, keeping your teeth whiter, eliminating bad breath. Now whether that's true or not, I can't confirm, but I can say that it seems to do the basics pretty well like brighten your teeth and leave a really good fennel-like taste in your mouth. If you like fennel, you'll love this toothpaste, and I think it's Ayurvedic.

On my first visit to Dr. Patel, she gave me a sample of this toothpaste. I love it! It's nice to use a toothpaste with natural ingredients that doesn't leave my mouth dry.
I eat a variety of spicy and ethnic foods so using this in junction with the stainless steel tongue scraper is ideal.
