Decent ambience... shabby chic!
It must be the watts used that give this bright wonder its name! Only 18w, with an average life of 10,000 hours... so it could burn out at 5k or 15k, good deal.
The bulb puts out a warmer color than the usual stuff from old T8/T12 tubes, or the majority of lights in Asia. (if you've visited or lived in Japan/China, you know what i mean!)
Surely LED light bulbs will drop in cost soon, AND they don't use any mercury. If they take a fair amount of juice to make, that's the price we pay to not go to sleep when the sun sets...
The best part about these energy-star-approved lights is the fat discount! PG&E is subsidizing them so they're only $0.33 each at 99 Ranch or other Asian grocery stores. I'm sure SoCal Edison is doing a similar promo. $1 for three! That's even better than Wal-Mart's $5 plastic salad-shooter.
I've installed these in every socket in my house that fits! Except for a few of the old kind. (hiss, boo)

70% less energy used; 12x longer the usage; mercury anyone?
Yeah, it's hard to say anything bad about CFLs other than that they're highly toxic due to the mercury in them. They have special drop off locations all over the country now, and I think it's illegal to throw them away in some cities, states, and counties, probably soon to be illegal everywhere. Of course, this information isn't mainstream yet, so when Wal-Mart has its giant CFL campaign where it tries to sell a billion bulbs or something, of course taking it all the way to the bank, hundreds of thousands of uninformed good people will probably unknowingly poison their environments with mercury when they toss their CFLs in the trash. Anyway, this bulb uses 18 watts to output 75 watts, which is pretty amazing; it'll last like 12,000 hours, and it burns brighter. The only problem is the mercury. Why can't we make CFLs without mercury?
