True Blue Eco-Fashion

As the owner of a green boutique from 2006-2008, it was my job to sort out who is really green in the world of fashion - and who isn't. It isn't as simple as just using organic cotton. Many of the "johnny-come-latelys" to eco-fashion don't understand this. Luckily, there are committed designers who have always been green. Melissa Baswell of Mountains of the Moon is one of those designers. Having ALWAYS producted her line sustainably, Mountains of the Moon is true Eco-Fashion.

Fabrics: only sustainable fabrics used - organic cotton, hemp, tencel - and low impact dyes
Fair Trade: certified through Green America; all products US Made in small, family owned businesses that support US workers (mostly women)
Green Daily Business Practices: recycled content paper & soy-based inks for all printed materials, reused boxes, no plastic bags or hangers, no extra/un-needed packing slips, office recycling, etc. (many large companies with "eco-lines" still have very UNGREEN business practices such as shipping each garment in a plastic bag /and or with a platic hanger)
Sizes: well-fitting cuts designed to flatter a variety of body types and a range of sizing that is inclusive of a diverse population of women.
Styles: classic, highly functional styles with updated details that create unique, but wearable pieces.
Durability and Care: color-fast, machine wash and hang dry for easy care and low impact for the life of the product

But beyond the technical considerations of how green they are, Melissa's designs are simply exquisitly beautiful and fabulously comfortable. They are among my best loved pieces and most frequently worn because of their versatility and ease of wear. The fabrics are dreamy against the skin and have a wonderful drape. The tailoring is on par with what one would expect to find in a garment three times the price. And the styles are the perfect casual chic. In fact, I never fail to get compliments when wearing Mountains of the Moon.

It's dreamy!

When I want to be exceptionally eco-fashionable, I don my Mountains of the Moon Melanie skirt. The fabric is gentle on my skin, moves when I do, and most importantly conveys my commitment to the environment to everyone who sees me. The purple & olive green combo is a great match for the rest of my wardrobe. Love it!

Mountains of the Moon

The skirt I got from Mountains of the Moon is really comfortable and the material is not what I usually associate with hemp fabrics. The color offerings were so great I had trouble choosing one, but the brown/beige combo I have is a great piece to wear on its own or over pants. I will definitely keep them in mind as a great gift for anyone interested in sustainable clothing!

Affordable, fashionable, organic clothing

Mountains of the Moon Clothing features hand made pieces produced by a group of friends and family. All of their clothing is made with sustainable materials, and the pieces are bright, fresh, and fashion forward. I have the Melanie skirt in barley and cream. The print is really fun, and I like to wear the skirt on sunny days.
