Chicago's best ice cream

Sometimes it takes reading a local newspaper (thankfully the Reader still prints them!) to learn about a very locally made ice cream that's full of flavor and other local ingredients, some sourced from a bakery I know and sold at the Green Grocer. Why hadn't I seen it when I was at the Green Grocer? Well I had to run over there after reading of Kris's amazing flavors, made seasonally in small batches, and taking a cue from all the artisanal and odd chocolate combinations of late. This is adult ice cream and I'm in love. Her chocolate and sweet basil is organic, and tastes so much like my favorite chocolates (the late R&R's version of chocolate and basil) that I think it's even better. You'd never guess how good a combination this is, it's not your ordinary basil of course, but it's a perfect foil for the creamy chocolate-y goodness within. I have to ration my pint since I'm not sure when I can get my hands on another one, or when she will switch to a different set of flavors, but I'm hooked. The cake, fruit and cream all comes from local farms and bakeries, and that is something to celebrate. I want all of my food to be this good and this local. Viva la NICE CREAM.
