NY "Green" Asphalt Brings Eco Upgrade to Toxic Road Repair Industry

The age-old and highly toxic asphalt industry is in desperate need of a health and eco-conscious facelift. Finally, a NY asphalt company steps up to the plate to invest in a toxin-free alternative + receiving great response from legislators to accept GREEN testing.

Just one year from inception, the sustainable, recyclable and non-toxic Greenpatch™ has earned widespread acceptance on governmental and industrial fronts in the greater New York area as well as Connecticut , New Jersey and the entire New England region. Today, the health-conscious asphalt alternative continues to capture ever-growing markets in the entire east coast and the Midwestern states for its "win-win" on the environment, in durability and cost. “The asphalt industry has been under pressure to reduce diesel and petroleum derivatives used in its road repair products- that which has been extremely harmful to human health and marine life,” states Glenn Shapiro, VP of Product Development of Cold Mix Manufacturing. “We have accepted this challenge by spending 16 months in state-of- the- art laboratories and 10 months of field testing… to come up with the first bio-degradable, recyclable, renewable and organic asphalt road repair solution.”

In New York City alone, conventional cold asphalt pours over 240,000 gallons of diesel oil into the ground per year - containing many of the lethal carcinogens such as Benzene, Toluene and Kerosene that contaminate the soil and groundwater. Traditional cold asphalt also has an extremely high Volatile Organic Compound levels (VOC’s) which results in these toxins being released into the atmosphere. These deadly compounds are now recognized by scientists to be a leading contributor to pancreatic cancer, renal failure and respiratory & neurodegenerative diseases. Both of these issues are addressed by GreenPatch™ by replacing the toxic additives with biodegradable, plant based solvents.

In 2008, New York pathologist investigator Dr. James Cervino, PhD. applauds GreenPatch for its use of non-hazardous plant oils and the absence of VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) in its ingredients. He also commends and supports Dario Amicucci and Glenn Shapiro, the producers of this “ingenious product” for their ethical and conscientious business model.

In the legislative front, fmr. NYS Senator Nicholas Spano has become the star lobbyist winning more and more legislators to "Green Testing" for a cleaner, safer highway repair industry. He earned the attention of a host of significant political figures such as Senator Antoine Thompson, chairman of the NYS Environmental Committee and agency official Bob Dennison- deputy for NYS DOT. Soon after, Mayor Gerald D. Jennings of Albany, Mayor Byron Brown of Buffalo and Mayor Clinton Young of Mt. Vernon all consented to testing the revolutionary GreenPatch for consideration as the new road repair material of choice for their respective cities.

Widespread consumer confidence sings a very positive note on GreenPatch as a smarter, more sensible product all around. Among the many industry subscribers of the GreenPatch technology is Con Edison (A major NY power company). "We've been using GreenPatch for eight months to repair pavement that was cut for utility work. It stands up to Manhattan traffic as well as the products we used in the past," said Mark Sullivan, field operations planner for Con Edison. "This is one example of how Con Edison is actively striving for environmental excellence. We believe that protecting the environment makes good business sense."

Government agencies such as NYS Department of Environmental Protection recognize the induction of GreenPatch™ into the road construction industry- paving the way for other health-conscious materials and applications. The National Green Energy Council has also provided its first and full endorsement of GreenPatch™ for its success in revolutionizing the road repair market for generations to come.

I was shocked and amazed to hear how dangerous our roads were to us and how relieved to see such an amazing new product. It is incredible that they have come up with something so safe, not only for the planet but for the road workers. To see this special company and lawmakers truly concerned about our safety is heart warming to say the least... and progressive, humanitarian and community-minded at best! Thank you for creating this and bringing our awareness to the need of such an eco-friendly product!

Nice article- even though we're in baby steps of the GREEN thing, it's about time governments are now beginning to care about safer, sustainable materials. Road repair materials are petroleum and diesel based with all sorts of environmental bad stuff that ooze up when it rains and falls into our storm drains. See one of my other references to my research project on all the harmful substances in the road industry-- this one shows how much help we really need: http://www.geocities.com/davefergus/Transportation/3CHAP3.htm

It's very sad, disheartening and even scary how what's detrimental to human beings gets approval from our government and many of its watchdog agencies. We have become a virus upon the planet, poisoning the air, the water and stripping the soil from all of its nutrients. Food is genetically altered...(No, Folks! Seedless grapes and watermelons are NOT a good idea).
Cars that run without gas that are efficient and affordable do exist! Natural healers and remedies (without the use of pharmaceuitcals do exist). There is way too much money being made by keeping people sick and undernourished. 98% of what is available on the shelves of supermarkets and drugstores around the world, eventually kills us or makes us unhealthy. It's time for government to step in and remove what is harmful and introduce healthy alternatives...I guess road repair is a start. Government and religion...keeping people down for centuries!
Going green has become fasionable but it's a way of life we never should have abandoned...Unfortunately, making money took a preference over health and longevity! Cheers to Mr. Spano.
