Another happy reader

I don't think I can add much beyond what other reviewers have said about Ode. It's a great magazine. It provides perspective about important global issues, but does so with optimism. In other words, it's not all about "Here's what's wrong with the world," it's also about "Here's what people are doing to make the world better."

I only subscribe to two magazines, and this is one of them.

Ode to Enjoy!

I consider my self to be an 'intelligent optimist', so that makes me the target they are marketing to...I was enticed by their offer to earn 10 issues of Ode by watching video clips about environmental trends, topics, and community i.e. IamElephant/The Mindful Life, Green TV, Global Warming, and Simple Shoes . Though short, the clips were succinct and informative; a few were quite fun too . I also ended up subscribing for a year at a 40% savings off the retail price. Once I've read Ode kiver to kiver, I'll recycle each issue, leaving them in our guest units for our B&B guests to enjoy!

ode is it

I've wanted to subscribe and finally did, guiltily for the trees, but realizing that this is one publication that can cheer me up, keep me informed, inspired, hopeful for all the change in the world we need. I think this magazine is an important beacon in a world where all news seems to be bad news. Positive attitudes have been scientifically proven to affect change in our health, and I think can affect the same change in our world.

ps- I loved the story Haru mentions...Clif Bar rocks.

ODE An independent international journal, without strings to the world of commerce and power

I recently came across Ode magazine and felt inspired from it. Their belief in progress, ongoing opportunities and the creativity of humankind is reassuring to read. Its about people making a difference, positive change, about peace and sustainability, respect and equality.Readers unite and contribute for a more just and sustainable world.

Big is not always best

There is an inspiring article in this July/August issue of Ode magazine on successful businesses that remain small and true to their values. Clif Bar, Righteous Babe Records, Anchor Steam and Facebook are just a few of the companies that have turned down lots of money to maintain quality and control over the business which has proven to work for both the people that make up these companies and their customers. Clif Bar for example, turned down $120 million from Quaker Oats to maintain their organic growth and difference in a world where bigger seems to mean better. I vote for small business, high quality and integrity in working with and for others.

Ode is essential reading for anyone interested in great social movements of our time

I started reading ODE a few years ago, and it is the only publication that is dedicated to bringing the positive stories of our time to light. Jurriaan Kamp (Editor-In-Chief) has done a remarkable job in gathering stories from around the world on such important issues, from water, to micro finance, to alternative energy. I really like how Ode brings out personal stories of the social entrepreneurs that work to bring these ideas to life, it is so inspirational to read, as an entreprenuer, that I can't seem to put down an issue until it has been completely devoured. I believe that if we had more positive examples, stories, and leaders featured in our mainstream press, we'd be a better country. I think the time has come in America to celebrate the good that is happening around us, and inspire our leaders, young and old, to rise to the great challenges of our time. Check out a copy of ODE, you won't be sorry, and you won't find most of this info anywhere else.

If you only read one magazine...

This is a fantastic publication! When I get my new issue I approach it with the same enthusiasm and anticipation as when I got a great new comic or Mad as a kid. The writing is superb and it covers a wide range of topics. The best thing about the magazine is it's optimistic focus on that what is right in the world (and it is the whole world, a truly international publication). It is not "Polly Annish" but sincere and intelligent. It is very pleasing graphically and while substantive, easy to read.

Advertising content is low and that which is there is classy and often informative about something truly helpful or interesting (that is where I learned about this website :0).

articles are short and to the point. Nice to read a magazine that originates outside the U.S (Holland)
