The Only Vegan Caramel-Dark Chocolate Bar!

Now that I know I am woefully allergic to dairy, I still crave the sticky sweetness of caramel. I have searched long and hard for any vegan candy even close to resembling a caramel filled chocolate bar.

As a teen, I used to sell chocolate for school projects and would end up eating many of the caramel filled bars myself (blaming it on my cat, Ci-Ci, who really only liked candy canes and Butterfinger bars).

I first found this Sjaak's bar at a little cafe in Willow Creek and took several with me on my camping trip on the banks of the Trinity River. That was pretty much my breakfast for two days in a row. The "caramel" filling is rice syrup and lots of other sweet things, so this is definitely not the treat for someone on a special diet (unless that diet is comprised of chocolates - in that case, I say "go for it").
