Bought a bottle of this (regular - no juice version was the only one I noticed) during a quick run to the health food store for food/remedies to help battle swine flu. Didn't (couldnt...hurting too much) read it well, and was surprised by the fizz when I opend it at home. Poured into a small glass and didn't mind it at all - had another glass, saved the rest for the next day, and went back to bed. Definitely felt good. Seemed good, but I purposely avoided looking at what I was drinking after noticing the "residue" (which I did gently shake to blend). This certainly did NOT make me feel buzzed ot drunk (get real folks - 0.5% at most alcohol!) Glad I didn't know it was from mushrooms or I wouldn't have tried it! I may try a juice version - grape sounds like one I would like. I just wonder about the level of acidity someone mentioned - as acidity is generally not good for the body (and all people with cancer tend to have acidic bodies).
The scariest thing on this site for me is the number of people writing in about their "health food habits" in the same paragraph they're talking about excessive negative health habits (like drinking to the extent you get a hangover! or even highs!!!) scary

I'm addicted to GT's Raw Kombucha!!!!

OMG!!! I can't believe after reading some of the reviews how similar my experience was to theirs. In 2005, I was in Seattle and had bought a bottle of the Passionberry and was disgusted by it and got turned off. I didn't know what the slimy stuff was in the bottle. (I wasn't "health savvy" as I am now) Just recently this year (2009) in July my sister in law had urged me to drink some at the local Syracuse Co-Op. She said that it sort of makes you drunk but it makes you feel good and gives you energy. I bought the Trilogy flavor and drank it all and I was really hungry at the time but it subsided it and it gave me energy that I couldn't sleep but I was in a good mood and happy. (I probably shouldn't have drank it in the afternoon). Since having that positive experience, I have been buying this stuff regularly. After the 3rd time I noticed that I was feeling balanced, healthy, and like a kid again. I had problems with my uterus and the ph, and all of that cleared up because of Kombucha. I also noticed that it sort of gives you a "high" and a "buzz" that is a healthier and uplifting feeling than drugs or alcohol. It definitely gets rid of my sugar cravings, especially pop(pepsi one) in the evenings/daytime.
They say this product is not FDA approved and my husband (who is a PhD in Science) is very skepitical because of that, but I think that the government just wants to conceal and suppress anything that makes us balanced, healthy, and self-empowered individuals. (may sound a little jaded, you never know!) Anyways, I am a newer, healthier, happier, balanced person because of this. I'M A KOMBUCHA FREAK NOW! : )

Kombucha the wonder drink!

I used to live in New York City. My best friend is the typical village NYU diet fad student. We had this this we called Hooka and hummus every Thursday. She brought Kombucha with her and pretty much forced me to try it. I promptly threw up. All over the hummus.

About a month ago I started having bizzare health issues ( it turned out to be mono) and my wonderful mother bought me a bottle of the gingerade for my stomach. I tired it again and this time it was like crack. I started drinking a bottle a day. I quit smoking and drinking soda afterward. Kombucha was that kick start I needed. I'm addicted.

Okay...

So I've tried it a few times, like it, but find it a bit expensive. I understand that it is organic. What I don't understand is how it is 'raw.' Sugar? Heat? And some say that if you use organic teas, that the scoby will mold. Hmm. Will someone clarify this for me?

Raw Organic Kombucha. Great Product. Extremely happy with this product

I began drinking GT's Raw Organic Kombucha in mid January 2009. My lymph nodes were painful in my underarms and my arthritis was inflamed in my left hand. I'm all about getting as healthy as possible so that I can be an active contributor in my family and community. I have many challenges and am currently battling breast cancer. I had a battery of tests in February. This part of my journey has a positive spin. By the time of my various scans and tests to check if my cancer has spread, the pain in my lymph nodes had stopped. Also, my inflamed joints in my left hand had gone down and the bright red turned to pink or my natural skin color. The pain in my joints diminished considerably. I received good news for the most part after my tests with the exception of swelling in my left clavicle and an uptake of radioactive dye in the head of my clavicle. I usually keep my personal struggles to myself but learned to speak out and ask for help or tell people about the benefits of a food or drink that had benefited me. I drink 8 ozs in the morning. Each bottle has 2 servings so a case lasts me 24 days. You can not put a price on life so I don't consider the drink expensive but like taking a good medicine that is natural and provides a better quality of life for me with no side effects. When I first drank the drink, I had chills from head to toe. The next day I had a warm feeling all over. I have completed my second month and I still get a slight warm feeling. Oh, another added benefit - my ongoing struggles with sinus infections. Since Kombucha is an immune system booster, it has also helped in this area. It hasn't cured the problem but again it has helped. I still have to do my ongoing care but this has improved on the severity. I have struggled with crippling sinus problems since 1994. Am I happy with this product? Extremely and will/have recommended it to others. Thank you for your time. Thank you Dave for creating this product.

Organic Raw Kombucha

So maybe these drinks require an acquired taste, but hey, so does beer & how many of you drink beer?? (I actually don't as I've never been able to "acquire" it's taste, but you get the picture). I never disliked these kombucha drinks, but rather thought to myself, "hmm, this is interestingly different, I think I'll try out the other flavors & see which is best". Needless to say, I find myself buying at least 1 bottle a week (the Trilogy flavor is my fave!) & I love that the kombucha is sooo good for my health!

kombucha

It bothers me to see something that is so easy to make getting such high reviews on a "sustain"-themed website. Next time you try this stuff, think about all of the energy that's wasted in bringing that 16oz bottle to your local store. A quick search will return a bunch of a recipes for making kombucha at home (and it's much better!). Seriously, it's easy to make and, if you're in the Bay Area, I would be more than happy to give you a baby scoby.

Here is a simple recipe (from memory):
Bring 3 quarts of water to a boil in stainless steel pot
Add 1-1.5 cups of sugar and boil for 5 min
Turn off heat and add some combination of 4-5 green or black tea bags (I usually use 2 green-ginger and 2 black)
Steep for 10 minutes
Once it's cooled down to room temperature, pour into a glass container.
Add kombucha mushroom (scoby) and 6-8 ounces of kombucha tea
Let sit for a week or so and a new mushroom will form on the top of the tea
Take out the mushroom and bottle it
I usually wait about a week before drinking it after it's been bottled.
I also strain it before bottling.
Make sure that everything is super clean!

Kombucha Gingerade!

This was my initial experience with Kombucha as my brother and I were driving home from Chicago:
"Here sis, try this stuff, it's really good."
"What is it?"
"Gingerade. You like Vernors. This is kinda weird, but i really like it and it's supposed to be really good for you".
"Ok"
I take a sip
"mlaa! what the F! what the hell is that? it's all fizzy too. ew".
Brother laughs.
"Huh, wait, let me try that again".
I take another sip.
and another. I helped him finish the bottle.
I have been a fan ever since. It was like, for me, an instant acquired taste. My body just wanted more.
It will fizz all over the place if you shake it too hard and open it too fast.
The first day that I drank a whole bottle all by myself, I just had an explosion of energy that I hadn't felt in a long time. I kicked butt at the gym that day. It's true that it's expensive; but for someone who's trying to kick some expensive addictions (cafe mochas, cigarettes, and drinking), this is a great healthy substitute. If you like the funky feeling of hard liquors, you'll like the feeling of this going down. :P

Addictive!

Ok. So initially I was introduced to Kombucha because a friend of mine drank it from time to time. My first encounter with it was of disgust! She opened the bottle and I took a whiff... just that one smell kept me off Kombucha for a year or so.
I don't know why I decided to try it, but one random morning I bought a bottle and drank it all up. I had been looking for culture drinks, and this was the closest and best product I could find. And now, I'm hooked.
Specifically, the Guava Goddess is amazingly delicious. I used to hate the taste, but now I crave it. I have psoriasis, a not so fun skin condition, and everytime I drink Kombucha it clears it up a bit. I'm at the point where I no longer use radiation therapy or heavy steroids for it. Who would've thought?

All in all, this is an amazing product. If you can get past the price, smell, and taste, do it!

I drink one of these a day and absolutely love the way they make me feel :)

I recently quit drinking coffee and have been on the lookout for a good product that is either low-caffeine or caffeine free to help give me a nice boost of an energy in the morning when I am at the office, falling asleep at my desk.

GT's organic, raw kombucha really does the trick for me and works really well. Aside from the mutli-green flavored one, I enjoy all of the different types of kombucha that GT offers. My favorites, though, are the guava and gingerade flavors.

Shocked

I have tried Kombucha and I have to say I was surprised. The fermentation was a shock to me as I guess I did not read it well enough (I was really thirsty). I could have gotten used to it if it weren't for the natural cultures floating around that I'm sorry, but i'm not about to drink that. I'm glad that the makers of this product make it naturally and I'm happy that people really do love it, it just isn't for me.

Drink It Raw!

The healhiest alternative to soda because it is naturally effervesent. Although some people find the acidic sharpness a little strong, I find that gently adding a little Stevia (and I do mean gently) makes it more appealing. The liquid Stevia works best. One a day keeps the doctor away.

Delicious and refreshing. I used to be a soda addict, but for many reasons, I looked for something better (for me, for the people, and for the planet). Now, I have a slight Kombucha addiction. Just try it and you'll feel good.

Raw Kombucha

By far one of the best in my opinion. Also, it is the only raw kombucha I have found available for purchase. Since I have started drinking this lovlely ferment, my skin is clearer, digestion is better, and I definately feel more energized after drinking it. I highly recommend the Trilogy flavor. The price is a bit high but it is better than I can make it!

The Kombucha Fad...

It seems as though there is an ongoing rotation of health food that gets its five minutes of fame. Quinoa was one of them. Now Kombucha. Fortunately, Kombucha is a much easier alternative to Quinoa. It is ready to drink and mighty tasty. It is energizing, low in sugar, and can also make for a very nice hang-over remedy.

I have just one warning: DO NOT SMELL IT! The smell is enough to turn you away forever (but really, what would you expect from a fermented mushroom drink).

Healthy alternative beverage!

I think Kombucha is a great and simple detox. It tastes good - they have many different flavors to choose from. I actually like the fermentation...I know when I am drinking this, it is something good for my body, as opposed to sodas or coffee. It is something so simple and easy that I can do that is good for me, that doesn't involve any elaborate planning or expense. All of my co-workers drink one a day! Healthy alternative beverage! 4 stars for sure!

Yummy Gingerade!

I love the ginger version of this Kombucha. I'm not big on the regular one, partly because of the taste. Also, I don't really drink soft drinks or juice beverages, so I don't like the ones with other berry flavors. The ginger one just tastses so spicy, rich and fulfilling. It lasts forever because one can only take a few sips at a time. I have noticed much higher energy levels when drinking this in the morning with some fruit. I usually drink a bottle throughout the day. It is pricey, so obviously an indulgence, but well worth it and much more satisfying and healthy than sweets or a coffee beverage.

Weird taste

I'm sorry, but no matter how good this is for you i can't get past the fermentation. It tastes like a wine cooler that's gone skunk, or taking a swig of juice you left in the back seat for too long.

Can't get enough

My boyfriend and I seemed to be addicted to Organic Raw Kombucha. GT's Kombucha comes either as 100% Kombucha (which is the fermented tea) or as 95% Kombucha + 5% fruit juice, which is their Synergy line. I've tried most of the flavors of their Synergy line and I find that Divine Grape (5% grape juice and just enough to make it sweet) is the best. My boyfriend can't get enough of the Trilogy drink that is a mixture of 3 fruit juices. It is hard for me to find a healthy drink other than water and this seems to fit the bill perfectly. Most of the drinks of the Snergy line come with beneficial bacteria and are low in sugar. I like the carbonation aspect that some flavors have, but you'll find that some flavors ferment better than others. Try it if you are looking for something different and organic :)

Better than hair of the dog

Yes, Kombucha does have a taste that only a mother could love. However, as I have drunk it over the years, it is something i have gotten used to and even come to look forward to on occasion.

I do feel a little loopy after drinking it, but not in a bad way, it seems to me that like Jenn said, I am simply more energized and alert, something I am not usually :)

The best thing I have found about this drink is the health benefits I can actually feel. For instance, If i have had a few days of not eating so healthy (being busy and just snacking on pizza and take-out or the like) I find that a bottle of this stuff is a great way to get myself feeling good again, and to get me back on the healthy eating wagon.

Plus, NOTHING (and trust me, I've tried most of them) beats this stuff as a hangover cure. Drink a bottle, let it sit for 20-30 minutes, then go for a nice jog and sweat out the bad stuff. Works like a charm.

The one other caveat for this drink is I had a friend who used to drink like 2 bottles a day and apparently developed some "woman problems" (I don't know the specifics, and I definitely don't want to). Apparently, drinking too much of this stuff is bad for some women - I don't know how or why, It's just what I've been told.
