Yuck. This shea butter has been refined to a white color, and the texture is much, much stickier than unrefined shea butter. It doesn't absorb very well at all. I purchased the largest size several years ago and did use it, but once I found the unrefined option, I switched and haven't managed to find a use for this one. It's still in the bottom on my bathroom cupboard.
With the refined shea butter you can smell the solvents used to refine it - it smells faintly like a gas station. Ironically the most expensive shea butter I've tried and I've seen no indication that it's *certified* organic. Very disappointed - and proof that just because it's more expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's a better product.

Smuther the Butter
Not only is this product organic and fair trade, but it naturally smells wonderful and it has many uses, such as: moisturizing of the lips, face, cuticles, hands and even damaged hair! I like how there are no unknown chemicals going into my skin, unlike my experience with other moisturizers. This product is wonderful, I highly recommend it!

I never tried the brand, but appreciate Jayne D's insight on how refined shea feels like. The refined shea is almost like using white bread instead of choosing whole wheat (as unrefined shea). more »

Yes, Unrefined Shea Nut Butter is the best. If you can get it in it's raw form before i's been heated to the point that the essential nutrients are destroyed vitamin A and E and etc. Many companies that sell Unrefined... more »
