Thrift store with excellent finds!
Address map 1600 University AveSince 1990, Out of the Closet thrift stores have been dedicated to raising money for AIDS/HIV care and treatment programs. Some locations even offer walk-in HIV testing!
Out of the Closet is one of the few thrift stores I'll dare enter to look for clothing items -- they have a very good turnover and have lots of new stuff. This particular location on University is usually pretty well stocked and always busy. The staff are empowered to barter -- if you think something is over priced or want to buy a lot of stuff, they are usually pretty responsive. I donate all my closet cleanouts to Out of the Closet - it's a great resource and a great cause.

Out of the Closet keeps great clothing on their racks because they encourage high turnover through a unique system of discounts depending on how long an item has been on the rack. I have another theory as to why such a big percentage of their stuff is high quality as compared with other second hand things - Out of the Closet has a good reputation for the effective use of its proceeds by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. My guess is that conscientious, active, youthful consumers are more likely to donate things to Out of the Closet than to other second-hand shops.
