Clothing made from organic cotton and recycled fleece and fabrics.
Address map 770 North PointFrom day 1 Patagonia has strived to be light on the earth and make the highest quality gear to be able to enjoy the tremendous wild places this earth holds. Their sustainability principles have gotten even stricter with time, one of the first major companies to switch to organic cotton, a strong recycling program to create new clothes out of old ones (or out of plastic bottles), and a long history of supporting environmental groups. As a founder of One Percent for the Planet, they have encouraged many other businesses to donate to environmental causes, bringing much needed funding to conservation groups and advocacy groups across the world. I adore Patagonia, what they do, what they create, and what they believe. Sure, they are a bit pricey, but their gear lasts for ages, and their positive impact on the planet is significant.

ALL my patagonia products have been amazing. I still have and wear some capaline base layers that I bought 15 years ago and I wear them a lot! I just bought some other products that I can tell will last just as long. They recycle your worn out items if you send them back too. Truly a green company.
Some peoples' idea of high priced clothing worth saving for consists of a fur or leather coat, or maybe a pair of Manolo Blahnick shoes. Mine is a new jacket, vest or pair of pants from Patagonia. Why? Their stuff is wonderfully designed and made and never wears out, even when you wish it would (I am still stuck with a turquoise jacket that I bought in the 80s that I wish a good deal less bright). My new every day winter black Patagonia jacket is over ten years old and still looks great. When last year my old Gore-Tex rain jacket from another manufacturer started to leak, I splurged on a new Patagonia rain jacket. It is beautiful, watertight and I am confident it will last at least a decade. I also love the photos and articles in the Patagonia catalogs, the fact that they contribute to environmental causes, the switch to organic cotton, recycled fleece, etc. All this appeals and makes me feel good about buying their products. But the primary basis of my support is the quality and longevity of their products. The fact that Patagonia's products are not throw-always - that you can expect them to last and look good for years and years (and that they will recycle them for you if and when they finally bite the dust) empowers me as a consumer to live a more sustainable life-style.

Patagonia not only provides athletes and outdoor enthusiasts with some of the best quality gear on the market, but also increasingly embraces the importance of respecting and protecting the environment. Their use of organic cotton, hemp, and recycled fibers and plastics contribute to their awareness of sustainability, and the company urges voting participation as well. This is a progressive company with values!
