Adds the "IIIII" to "picante"!

There are some condiments that you must always have in your kitchen -- Tabasco hot sauce is one of them. It's got a nice zing and the acid/vinegar flavor complements many dishes.

You can't go wrong with McIlhenny hot sauces -- though they aren't organic, they are made with local ingredients and contain no additives. McIlhenny is a Louisiana-based company that is very involved in the local community -- they support restoration and preservation of the wetlands, and they have even "given back" to help with flood relief work in Mexico to demonstrate gratitude for relief provided during Hurricanes Rita & Katrina.

Note - they have an absolutely darling website - think "county fair" and check it out, but come back and write a review about their products here on SustainLane!

life without Tabasco

Whoever created this simple blend of distilled vinegar, red pepper, and salt is a genius. It's all natural and aged in white oak barrels, go figure! I still haven't found another hot sauce that was quite as unique for balance of vinegar, spice, and salt. I'm a huge fan of the green kind, too. I wonder, will there ever be an organic Tabasco? I think that would be awesome. Anyway, I pretty much am happy to use Tabasco on everything from pizza to salads. I'm also kind of a hot sauce connoisseur but I always go back to Tabasco, partly because it's amazingly tasty and amazingly well priced. And I'm kind of embarrased to admit that I'm somewhat of a condiment junkie. And the fact that almost all health food stores carry it speaks to its quality. Leave it to Louisiana, I guess. I have a dream to tour the Tabasco facilities one day. :)

Check out "Crystal" brand hot sauce - I like their red sauce over McIlhenny's but they're both good. more »
