Not only does Quivira produce some of the finest biodynamic wines in California, but they are just covered in solar panels, harvest wind energy and are in the midst of establishing a set of 150 raised beds around the tasting room to grow produce for their own wine tasting and catered events.
I had the distinct fortune of talking my sweetie into stopping at Quivira yesterday -- we had only planned to visit Rafanelli and were on a tight timeline -- because it is so close to the other winery. The wines were really good - I bought three bottles, one of the Dry Creek Ranch zin, and two Anderson Ranch zin (one to save in the back of my closet for a couple of years). Service was excellent - both staff were friendly, courteous and knowledgeable.
After more than three years of farming organically and biodynamically, Quivira was just awarded certification through the Demeter Association. I'm looking forward to revisiting this winery to see the changes to the grounds and enjoy a picnic and some wine.
