Recycling

I agree that recycling is in everyone's best interest. I am somewhat confused as to why citizens in the City of Wilmington were all provided with receptacles and basically mandated to recycle. Do the residents of the county not breathe the same air that we do and have the same responsibility. I have been told that county homeowners would incur an increase in the amount that they would have to pay for trash collection. Don't the private companies that collect garbage have any responsibility for our environment? I sympathize with them and feel that the state should bear some of the increased cost to these small companies for the benefit of all of us instead of giving years of tax breaks to big businesses who incorporate in Delaware and make huge profits that benefit only a few.

Innovative Recycling Initiative

The Recycle Bank business model is truly unique in that it provides tangible results for doing something to minimize environmental impace. Gone are the days of lugging bottles and cans to the recycling machines at supermakets! Recycle Bank members simply put combined recycleables in one container and have it removed by their existing recycling service provider. New technology records the amount recycled and provides "member rewards", essentially recoverd money to be spent at partner companies like Target. Some improvement and development will be needed to bring this idea to large co-op and condo units, but the idea is fantastic.
