Good idea.

Practical, reasonably priced, and large enough to accommodate plenty at the market. Not as strong as some, but still well worth picking up.

Good, but don't overload them

I like that these bags are made out of 80% recycled plastic bottles, but I agree, they can start to come apart. However, I do find that sackers (especially at other grocers) tend to overfill them with heavy goods. Even though they're reusable doesn't mean that they're meant to be filled to the top with bottles and cans. They're spacious so that they can accomodate large LIGHT items like paper goods, lettuce, boxed cereal, etc.. Fill them to the top with heavy stuff and they'll fall apart just like a paper or plastic bag. At 99 cents, they're a good value, and their boxy shape makes it easy to fold them up and stuff several inside one bag to take with you when you go shopping.

Please use canvas bags at grocery store

The trick is that once you get the bags, you have to remember to take them with you into the store! What we do is hang the empty bag on the kitchen door, so when we leave we pick it up and take it to the car. Then we loop the bag over the door handle in the car so we see it when we get out of the car. Once you get in the habit of using the bag, you'll find you'll return to the car to get the bag even if you forget it. It's one of those small but measurable steps you can take to combat waste, global warming and forest devastation.

These bags aren't canvas they are a woven plastic. PLUS they are poorly made, my bag is splitting open at the seams already. : ( Probably more toxic for the environment when I throw it out than the plastic bags they are... more »
