Safe Toys Made from Organic Cotton!

Dolls and Stuffed Animnals made using only Organic Cotton and Natural Dye Colors by Honeysuckle Dreams

Finding a safe toy for your baby or child that is made completely from natural organic cotton, natural dyed colors, as well as made in the U.S. can prove to be a challenge even today! Sometimes, a company can offer some of these choices, but not all.

I began to experiment with doll making many years ago, in the early 90's when my children were young, and decided that having the most natural, least allergenic components made the most sense for a doll or stuffed animal that a baby or child would be hugging and probably toting around all day -especially since I find that my dolls do become those favorites! In researching natural fabric choices, I found out about the intensive pesticide application practices used to grow conventional cotton, and I also found that organically grown cotton was indeed available (though it was challenging to locate in those years!).

By 1995, I started my own small home business, Honeysuckle Dreams, www.honeysuckledreams.com , designing and sewing dolls and stuffed animals, using only organic cotton for everything. That included the fabric, the machine-sewing thread, the stuffing, the yarn for embroidery and wig-making, as well as eventually having a small batch of organic cotton lace made up for me! For colored fabrics and yarns, I explored natural dyeing and found a wonderful art to pursue as part of my endeavor. I sold at local craft fairs and eventually online and to other businesses. I have been able to engage in some interesting custom requests and commissions and find they are wonderful for expanding my creativity.

Today, in 2008, I am proud to still be able to dedicate my efforts to hand dyeing in natural botanical dye colors, designing my own pieces, handsewing, and hand embroidering my organic cotton dolls and stuffed animals. I remain committed to using only organic cotton for all of their components and to creating special unique dolls that are beautiful, totally lovable and huggable for little ones. I have also been able to engage creatively in natural dye painting and printing and in using my naturally decorated fabrics to sew beautiful keepsake custom blankets and quilts for children as well as adults.
