For the longest time there has always been a big pitcher above the kitchen sink. Throughout the day as I'm rinsing something like a dish or the teapot strainer, the overflow goes right in the pitcher (sometimes I have to put the pitcher in the sink). This is also great for dumping stale liquid from the water glass that has sat out all night or when you can't tell whose glass that is with all the lip marks on it. This (grey)water goes in the pitcher and is then used for watering plants or soaking a filthy pot (like the rice pot) so it will clean up more easily and with less water. Also, this method is great for catching water used to cool a boiled egg!
