I gave it the extra star for not being made of someone's skin.. But other than the cruelty-free factor, I'm going to add myself to the list of people who think this brand is overhyped, and I will never pay full-price, online, for another one of their bags. Judging from this one, I don't think I'd pay over $50 for another one of their bags. I ordered the Werner Japanese Paper bag in Cognac. It smells of plastic bottles, which I guess shouldn't come as a surprise because they brag about that.. But what really grinds me is the fact that I paid $225 for a bag that looked really buff and sophisticated online but is actually of a kind of trash-bag consistency... It's flimsy, shiny, and when the light shines on it is when you really get that plastic texture. I would have been better off going to Target or just buying a $20 bag from some clothing boutique at the mall. Serves me right though, because I bought from them after reading countless stories here and other sites about how they are really not very nice people. Tossing bags out the window for the female masses to fight and claw over is not benevolent, it's demeaning.
.. and another thing, why are their bags so friggin' big?! What's up with that? Like they're trying to offset the flimsiness by making them huge?! We can all tell, Matt 'n Nat!

As a former employee of Matt & Nat, I have to let everyone possible know what really goes on behind the scenes. It was by far the worst place I have ever worked. The way they treat their employees is horrendous. They fire people (even VERY pregnant people) one day before their 6 month probationary period to avoid paying benefits. They are sexist. They have their bags made in China, out of non-degradable cheap plastics. They make their employees remove the "made in China" tags from their bags. Please remember, when buying one of their bags, that you are not helping the environment or anything else other than fuelling one of the 2 terrible bosses' Mercedes Benzes.

I got a Matt and Nat wallet as a gift, and was so happy it is from a "green" company. The wallet, however, is very poor quality. First of all, if you use even a few of the slots for cards, the wallet will not snap closed. In addition, the large zippered compartment on the outside, which looks like it would be great for change, cannot be accessed easily. It is very stiff and again, if you fill it with even a few coins, it will not zip. After just two weeks the glue around the edges is becoming unglued and it looks as if it will not last much longer. Beware - online this looks like a great product, but it is not functional at all. And, to make matters worse, I wrote to customer service as the wallet has a one year warranty. I have the original box and it is clearly a new style (Reznor) and embossed with the Matt and Nat name. But, because I do not have the gift receipt, they will not return, or even exchange it. The design of this wallet is poor as it is not functional at all - and it is falling apart after light use. Do not buy this product and the company lacks good customer service.

Oh my goodness...I'm so excited to find out these are vegan bags!! A store across the street from my apartment in Michigan - Adorn Me - sells these purses and wallets. I bought one for my mom and a friend who happens to be a stylist and personal shopper. She LOVED it! My mom uses her purple purse every day. It has plenty of compartments for those who like organized purses, hand straps and a removable shoulder strap. It would be great for traveling as one side has outside pockets and the other is flat - so the traveler can turn the pockets toward her (I assume) body in areas with a risk of pickpocketing. These bags and wallets are super stylish and chic. Although I gravitate toward all things eco, I also appreciate fine design and a well-made product. These purses are a combination of both!

My favorite place was "The Cabbage Patch". It was a specialty store in a small town in Kingstree, South Carolina. I bought eight bags and two comoputer bags in about six months. I encouraged my freinds to also buy the product. I relocated to Memphis, TN in October 07. I had problems with one of the bags and the store traded the bag out. When I had problems with the zipper in the computer bags, I called the store to report the problem and the store owener told me that she no longer carried the bags and that they were on sale when I boutght them and I needed to call the company.
I had to go to South Carolina to visit my sick mother. When I got there, I also had to get my car serviced. I took it to the Cabbage Tire Company and it is also the place where the "Cabbage Patch " is housed. The owner was shocked to see me, and did not show me the common courtesy to shop around. What I found was amazing! She was fully stocked with new bags! I was stunned........ she lied and was caught in the lie. She put me in a position not to trust her. I got lots of compliments about the bags and always referred them to the business. I would recommend that MATT&NATT beware of the persons that represent them. Liar's should not be able to represent them. Beware of the problem with the zippers in these bags. They are not holding up, and I have had problems getting them repaired.

As a long time vegan, I have always been on the hunt for serious, alternative style. I found Matt & Nat on a cyber boot search many years ago and consequently discovered all of their handbags and wallets as well. Then I moved across the street from a boutique in NY that carried them and I got to experience many items in person, like little internet celebrities. Not only is the construction durable and flawless, but Matt & Nat has a way of appealing to both the class act and the punk in me. While Matt & Nat's broad range of styles appeals to many different demographics, they still retain the consistent edge, extreme taste, affordability and conscientious application that is only Matt & Nat.

I chose to buy a bag from Matt and Nat from their website. They have great styles, but the descriptions are lacking and the pictures are not great so I emailed them to ask them a couple of detail questions. After receiving answers, I bought the bag and when it arrived I was very disappointed. It was not how they described it at all. I returned the bag for an exchange. After using this bag for less than a month it BROKE (the hardware on the bag was cheaply made and the shoulder strap broke). I returned it for *another* exchange and after weeks of waiting, I received the exchanged bag. This one lasted less then TWO days before breaking in the same way as the old bag. I was livid. The customer service I received was inadequate and their solution for the design flaw was to have me send this bag back and exchange it yet again. Do not bother buying from Matt and Nat- the hassle and aggravation I have gone through over the past 2 months+ is not worth it.

If you are looking for something stylish and functional to carry around, but don't want animals to be killed in the making of it, then Matt & Nat bags of Montreal are the best choice! They make awesome looking handbags of all sizes and colors, shoes and wallets. They are all vegan and can be found online as well as at cool stores like MooShoes in NYC. Even better, I found my bag on sale at TJMaxx discount store. What a great deal! Being vegan does not mean looking frumpy or carrying a hemp bag, thanks to Matt & Nat!
