Even More Refreshing than an Actual Naked Swim! (drink a few and it just might lead to one)
The New Belgium Website offers an informative and interesting biography of their summer seasonal brew:
New Belgium’s Skinny Dip started out as a challenge from our founder Jeff to brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert. Jeff was looking for a full-bodied, highly drinkable beer for after workouts - something a little lighter than the rest of the portfolio. Peter, a Belgian, responded: “Only in America would I be asked to brew a beer with no calories and less alcohol.”
The website says more, I suggest you visit it. I will tell you that Skinny Dip is my favorite beer! Absolutely, positively, my favorite beer! I didn't know that it's alcohol content is less, or that it has less calories - "114 calories per 12-ounce serving." I do know that it is absolutely delicious. It is has the warm, rich taste of a thick, dark beer while retaining a soft, light texture. It goes well with many types of cuisines. It is amazing with burgers, wonderful with pasta and pizza, outstanding with stir fry and even palatable with sushi and teriyaki dishes. As you can tell, I drink Skinny Dip with many a meal. However, I have on occasion drank Skinny Dip after Skinny Dip without any culinary accompaniments. Now that I have been informed that Skinny Dip has "less alcohol" I feel that I need to comment on that. The website (as far as I have seen) does not reveal the alcohol percentage of Skinny Dip or say what "less alcohol" is relative to. I am guessing that Skinny Dip has less alcohol than other New Belgium beers but more than your average Cooperate Brew (Bud, Coors, Miller, etc.). I say this not because I assume, but from the wisdom of experience. While Skinny Dip is so flavorful and delicious that I prefer to drink it casually, sitting back and taking it all in, I have played drinking games with it - it gets you good and drunk. I have attended the University of Colorado at Boulder for two years, so I'm a pretty experienced drinker and this stuff will toast the biggest and the bravest.
