Typical ripoff

My WIFE let some high roller remodeling jerk talk her into two of these (all this behind my back) and all the while propping up the tax benefits involved, so much so, he charged twice what I can buy them for elsewhere.

I wasted 3 hours using 2 infrared temp guns and one digital thermometer, running and recording temperatures in the attic, and shooting ceiling temps in the house. 100% sun and temperatures a mld 91. Long story short, after running checks then covering the units to shut them off, I was finally able to get a .6 (six tenths) of a degree in temperature improvement.

Please do your homework before jumping off on some latest/greatest scheme, even with osamabamas blessing. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Poor connection between remote solar panel and fan

My husband and I purchased and installed two solar-powered attic fans. One of the fans required a remote solar panel, which we also purchased at considerable additional expense. Imagine our surprise when we attempted to connect the Solatube solar panel to the Solatube fan and found that the electrical connection in the panel is smaller than the connection in the fan. My husband found a way to make it work by jerry-rigging the connection and securing it with electrical tape. However, we question how long it will last in the heat. We also question why a company would create a product for use in connecting to another of the company's product and cause the connection to fail. We are very disappointed in this poor craftsmanship.

That said, the fans have been in operation for a few days, and already we have noticed a considerable difference in the temperature in the house.

The true SolarStar brand Add-on panels are designed to work specifically with the SolarStar attic fans. There should have been no problems with the connections. Are you sure that both products were made by Solatube... more »

solar attic fan

A practical solution to cooling a hot attic that is similar in cost to a conventional system. I will seriously consider installing this solar unit in my house. It will reduce my summer cooling bill.

This is not a review, since he doesn't own the product. I'd rather not wade through meaningless thoughts when I'm trying to make a decision. more »
