SolaTubes

I have six SolaTubes and would have seven if my husband had not said "enough." My oldest ones are from the 90s when they were first available in this area. They are wonderful and the only leaks we have had were caused by having our house re-roofed by roofers who were not familiar with SolaTubes. The last roofers were fine as SolaTubes are now quite common here (Ft. Worth, TX). I thoroughly recommend SolaTubes for anyone who loves light and wants to save daytime electricity usage.

Reviewing the Tube-Vent-Light Set-Up

When checking for reviews of the all-in-one arrangement (useful to us because our high-end baths are 5x8 and maybe 8x8 respectively) I found none. Well, we took the plunge and they work great. No ceiling clutter, fan is very quiet (comparable to our Panasonic in 3rd bath). No complaints from the contractors re: install. Title 24 compliant. Look ever so slightly cheesy, but a very easy tradeoff for the lower light bills (in combination with other investments, our PGE bill is down $650 from Jan-March, and water use is down 20% compared to last year).

Going Green doesn't have to be boring

Solatube offers homeowners the opportunity to not only conserve energy but beautify their home. The Solatube tubular skylight is energy efficient (Energy Star rated) and beautiful at the same time. The design is sleek and modern and can fit in to any home decor and room. I have them in my home in my bathrooms, hallway and Kitchen. I am also thinking of adding them to my garage and laundry room.

Whats neat about Solatube is that you can add light kits in to the tubes, a daylight dimmer and exhaust fans for a bathroom or laundry.

For anyone interested, there is a showroom in the East Bay/Alameda County/ ( Pleasanton,CA) that showcases the product and has various sizes and designs. Definitely check it out if you are interested in these products (tubular skylights)

Better than Velux or ODL. Solatube is 99.97% reflective. Others dont compare.

Great idea, should be everywhere!

NObody should have to work in a cube dungeon like the guy with the stapler in "Office Space."

Man.

I've seen these guys at conventions and out in neighborhoods installing. WOuld be really great to have these in underground train stations like BART which are pretty grimy and dark. Not sure what length Solatubes can work well for.

Natural daylight is the best!

Tube Your Life

More than lives up to they hype

During our home remodel, my wife and I had a "problem room", a bathroom in the middle of the house, with no exterior light, making it seem dark and cramped--we unaffectionately referred to it as our house's "dank little hole". In our research for the most energy efficient and beautiful solution, we found Solatube--and having zero experience with an install like this, bought a kit from Lowe's and installed it in the bathroom.

Solatubes are everything they advertise themselves to be: inexpensive, easy to install, energy saving, and beautiful. The total cost was $300 for the install kit and a single extension tube (all sold at Lowe's--though we also needed to buy a saw to cut into the roof). Four people--none of which had never cut into a roof, much less do a similar kind of install--installed it in less than six hours...from first measurement to caulking it sealed. Having done it once, I am confident we could do it 2-3 hours.

The bathroom with the natural lighting has been completely transformed--we are now also putting in the tubes in our darkened hallways and closets. Even if they weren't so cheap (cost-wise) and easy to install, I'd still recommend them, but for what you get you just can't beat them.

wonderful idea

This is a wonderful product. not only does it bring daylight into a room, but it would also allow to use as a vent, thus acting as a window in a windowless bathroom.
