Merino wool skirt.
BuyLast summer was the summer of the skort; this summer it's all about skirts. I love my new flirty Spectrum skirt from Smartwool.
It's just the right fit, thanks to a super wide elastic waistband that's easily more than two inches wide. No binding, no slipping, the skirt just sits where it sits, and I don't feel a thing or worry about the skirt moving around. The waistband incorporates a front panel that doesn't have elastic, which gives the front panel a nice, flat appearance and a custom-fit.
I like the panel construction--rectangular front and back panels with flared side panels. It gives this A-linish skirt it's flirt. An arc of contrast stitching along each side panel also adds to the skirt's feeling of movement. Finally, the simple unfinished-looking hem keeps this skirt light.
Oh, I forgot to mention that this skirt is made out of merino wool -- soft, thin merino wool. The construction and fabric make it fun and flirty for around town and the perfect power walking skirt. It hits a few inches about the knee so it's ideal for hot days, but not anywhere near mini skirt length.
Bottom Line: I love, love, love this skirt. I wear it every day (which I can do because wool resists odors for a long, long time. It's so much more comfortable (not to mention cooler) than wearing shorts.
