I saw a sustain lane rep on KRON this am. she said there is a carbon footprint calculator on your site. can't find it. wasted a lot of time (and electricity) looking for it.
I was reading the news on Google Friday, 22 September. I saw an article calling Honolulu one of the greenest cities in the US. I was shocked. I had to read this to make sure it was not a joke. It sounded like a paid advertisement for the tourist industry.
I lived on the island of Oahu, and this is not the Honolulu I know. Outside the tourist areas, the city is filthy. There is trash everywhere the constant winds can pile it up. Traffic is horrible. The daily rush hour in the city lasts about 3 hours twice a day. The public transportation is minimal for such a large city. The local government cannot present its citizens with a workable proposal for a light rail system to relieve much of the congestion. The greenest thing about Honolulu is the folks in downtown area who know better than to try and drive during the day. Many ride bicycles instead of sitting in traffic jams.
The local government enacted a tax on aluminum cans. The city failed to provide enough recycling centers to reclaim the cans.
Your review does not mention how coral in the waters off Honolulu is dying. Compare it to the beautiful corals surrounding the other islands.
Honolulu was ranked number one for its clean air. This is like Barry Bonds and his homerun record. It probably needs a giant asterisk next to it. It is true that on most days Honolulu has great air quality. This is not a result of any environmental strategy or planning. It is simply the wind. Oahu is blessed with nearly constant winds. The constant Honolulu smog is blown away faster than it is created. However; see the city on those rare days the wind is not blowing, break out the 2008 Olympics pollution mask. I have lived in Los Angeles and been to Mexico City, their smog is amateur compared to Honolulu. Honolulu could easily be the smoggiest city in the US if not for the wind. Honolulu's foul air is blown out over the Pacific Ocean. Please do not give such accolades to a city that is lacking any real environmental plan.

I first saw you guys in Ode Magazine. Then, a customer of mine wrote a review of our products on here. I came to check it out myself. It is a very cool concept and I love the idea of people who care sharing their experiences/opinions with people who care. I have now used the site as a resource to look up like-minded businesses and potential venues for my products, but also for fun to get tips about tasty treats, good restaurants and safe body care products. Please stay around for a long time.

Hurry up and wait! I went to this site several months ago hoping to see the reviews I'd written and start adding friends and saving lists of cool-sounding places to go/activities to try. I believe relationships are the key to this world, not machines or computers or things. So, networking with people and organizations through this tool is great. In addition, the more SustainLane can reach out to people, the better. And vice versa of course! (sustainlane blogs and so on) The site looks really good now and I can't wait for more functions to escape from the sustainlane labs. Onward and upward! I like the site much better now.

I haven't looked at the website yet, but when I read about it in the Green Festival Guide I was really excited that such a site existed -- bringing together info on all the many organizations providing environmental resources. So many people in the country live in regions where info like this is hard to come by. I hope sustainlane.com can become a resource to these folks to give them access to products, services, and ways of thinking that are more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
