What's your single-short non-fat half-caff really worth?
The Terra Bite lounge is coffee with a side of sociology. Walk inside and it looks like any other casual cafe. The difference only emerges at the register - there isn't one. People pay as much as they feel their order is worth.
Terra Bite asks customers who can pay to contribute what they would elsewhere, but it's ok not to pay at all - the barista has been instructed not to watch people at the cash box.
Yes, it's an experiment in public honesty, but it's also just a coffee shop, and a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
The founder is very up front stating that Terra Bite is not a charity, he intends it to be a profit-making venture, and it's working so far. In fact, there are plans to expand.
