Rucksack Ruminations

Years ago, at least fifteen, I bought a fantastic rucksack in the Freemont district of Seattle. Made of natural fibers and tanned leather with shoulder straps lined with thick wool, my rucksack has attended class with me, traveled from Amsterdam to Bandol, surviving the years well with little wear, except the patina of aged leather.

I decided to look Terra Pax up online and see if they are still in business...and are they! Their collection includes mini-rucks, courier, sling and field bags, fanny packs, clutches and totes - made with 90% natural materials such as hemp, linen, wool, uncoated solid brass hardware, and stag horn from shed antlers.

I think you will also be impressed, as I am, with their mission statement and philosophy of industrial ecology. Terra Pax recycles, composts, avoids the use of petrochemicals, and operates a sustainable business.
