Preaching to the choir

First things first, this film features commentary by some fascinating and engaging intellectuals from the forefront of environmental activism like Paul Stamens, Kenny Ausubel, Ray Anderson, and others. I really liked the beginning of the film. I found it engaging and interesting. They discussed the evolution of the current environmental crisis.

What I didn't like was some of the production qualities like stock footage of beautiful kelp forests contrasted with footage of industrial waste and burning oil fires. I felt like I was being manipulated, rather than convinced.

I am still struggling with the right way to persuade people towards postive change, and I think that this film straddles the line of scare tactics.

Simultaneously, this is a topic that should not be ignored.A strong call to action is necessary. I don't know how someone not already aware and concerned with these issues would react upon seeing it. I was sad that this might be a case of preaching to the choir.

The 11th Hour, a must see

Watching this movie was like a bit of a Green Festival / Bioneers reunion for me. William McDonough, Tom Lindsey, David Suzuki, Tzeporah Berman, Kenny Ausubel... All incredibly gifted communicators and leaders in the environmental and sustainability movement, captured alongside shocking and awe-inspiring scenes of nature. I felt myself wanting more, in-depth discussion with these amazing people, while thinking of more ways to reach and involve more people.

I read that Leo DiCaprio, who produced this movie, strayed away from corporate ties and big studio involvement so he could have more control over the content and surface the voices of real leaders. I love that he did that.

I think everyone should see this movie.

It's 11:59:59... Get Excited!!

This is a really awesome film. I really enjoyed it. My housemate was tired and thought it got a little muddled in the middle, but ultimately we agreed it painted "the whole picture" really well. She liked the part about living on current daylight.

I think this is the film I've been waiting for.

I hope that Warner Bros allows the film to go wide release (dvd press) quickly so that teachers can get this important film asap, instead of a year from now. If you wanted to watch Inconvenient Truth or A Crude Awakening, you don't have to--watch this instead!

The most important thing to do, if you like this film and believe the urgency of taking action, is to walk the talk, and get your less nature-loving friends and family to see the film too.

The 11th Hour is now

This movie was well done. I zoned out a little each time Leonardo DiCaprio came on screen to give his 2 "Global Cents". Is it because he's an actor and not an "expert"? Perhaps!

My husband would have liked to see more clips featuring 'Green' things that everyday consumers could do. The movie seemed to zip by the conceptual designs and ideas that would make considerable impact on this earth.

The list of eco-celebs was extensive and impressive; Leo being the only Hollywood one. Oh and if they could have just added subtitles when Steven Hawkings robo-voice spoke.

The movie was well done and more visually appealing than Gore's Inconvenient Truth. I.T. felt more professional and fact-based, whereas 11th hour was more touchy-feely with a few scenes sprinkled in for shock or emotional value. Both movies were effective but in different ways.

This is a MUST SEE movie of our times! You will feel the urgency to act! And so you should!
