The Hermitage is dedicated to the shelter, protection and care of homeless cats.
Address map 5278 E 21st StreetThe Hermitage Cat Shelter was one of Tucson's first no-kill no-cage sanctuaries providing permanent homes to needy cats with behavior or health issues and adopting out all others to loving homes.
As of Mid 2008 the Hermitage is no longer a no-kill shelter. The began working with the local Humane Society vets and within a month at least 40 cats were euthanized. If you ask the Board or Executive Director they will tell you the cats were ill from mistreatment by the former staff and volunteers, this simply is not the truth. Many staff were fired shortly before these changes took place because they made their feelings know at a Board meeting. Once there was no longtime vet tech or cleaning staff left the shelter the killings began. Many of the volunteers were also banned from the shelter for questioning the decisions made by the current management.
The is a group of former volunteers, donors, sponsors and staff trying to save the Hermitage Kitties. It is however an up hill battle, most people just don't care what happens to the cats. But then they never met them either, there are no sweet faces and personalities to connect to all this insanity. Many of the euthanized cats were happy and friendly, sure some of them had minor health issues but when kept in check their illnesses were barely noticeable much less to the cats themselves. The loss of on of the first no-kill shelters in Tucson is tragic, but there is a chance we can still save the remaining cats and the values the shelter was originally founded on. You are obviously a troll for the Save the Hermitage. Completely negates your review due to your little plug at the end. more »

Once again, Rosalie T, you've demonstrated the Save the Hermitage Coalition's fallacious logic and lack of anything but anecdotal review. This post is not a review of a person's experience with the shelter, but an... more »
