Address map 1526 E. 55th St.No secret--this place is dreadful!!!!
I walked to the basement to use the restroom, the first freaky thing that happened was one of the "under cover" security officers raced down the steps past me. Then continued to run down the hall in the basement. He wasn't very under cover nor was he very discrete.
Once I made it down stairs to the basement I saw the "baby changing station" in the hallway, in front of the restrooms---just hanging on a wall? Please allow me to clarify, this means that anyone walking to the restroom can see a parent changing their child's diaper, etc. There are also, several large surveillance cameras, watching, and filming everything, everyone is doing in the basement---- including---- parents changing their baby's diaper. Can you say perverted, stalking and strange?
Isn't that against city health code or something?--I don't want to see a naked baby or kid when I go to the restroom--
Eureka! I believe I may have figured out why, this Treasure Island believe that they are "Americas' most European Supermarket".
1) Strange child porn-----in the basement.
2) Restrooms so narrow you may pass out from lack of oxygen or air.
3) Empty Wine Cellar with a sign over the door stating, "We prosecute if you steal".
4) A shoe shine stand in the front of the store---why is that located in a grocery store?
5) Rude employees who will curse you out over a pencil.
6) Creepy security guards.
"Americas' most European Supermarket".
Maybe, it's European like a colonized 3rd world country.
Listing is in serious need of updating. Hyde Park Coop declined rapidly, and went bankrupt leaving its coop shares worthless.
Sold its space to Treasure Island, a small, traditional grocery chain, locally based.
The co-op has a great selection of organic food products in bulk - so they're cheap too.

This Co-op does not differ from regular grocery stores in any way. The prices are high, the lines are long. They will be out of really basic items like pasta. I once bought a salad-in-a-bag kit, and all the lettuce was rotten. This is definitely the worst grocery store I have ever been to. I would recommend going over a few blocks to the Hyde Park Produce market on 53rd, which is a fantastic grocer.
Patrick's keywords: co-op hyde park
This co-op is a mess. They never have any of the shelved stocked and the products are way overpriced. It's the only grocery store in Hyde Park, but they don't carry all the products that you'd expect them too. The people are rude, I've actually had to argue with the bag boy to tell him how to pack my groceries, and the cashiers are slow and unfriendly.
