has merit, but...

A friend tried this cleanse and convinced me it was worth a test. I have done the Master Cleanse regimen about 5 times now, first for only a long weekend, then gradually building up to the full 10-day plan. It’s not easy, it takes commitment, and I would not recommend it during the summer months, for the temptations of outdoor cafes and warm weather make it more challenging.

I have mixed feelings about this particular cleanse, whereas I think it has merit for breaking bad eating habits, reducing sugar cravings, and cleansing your digestive tract, I’m not convinced toxins are actually being removed from our fat cells. I don’t think medical science knows enough about how and under what circumstances that can happen. I also am not convinced you are getting enough or any protein from this program, and for that reason I don’t plan to do it again. I do however think you can easily use another type of fast, and continue with the salt bath. I find the laxative teas too harsh and unnecessary when the salt bath does the work more gently and as effectively.

I think this regimen can be valuable for the above benefits, as we seem to carry around extra build-up in our intestines, so a good cleaning seems helpful and safe. Certainly a wake up call to change your diet is also a good result, but I hope people don’t turn to this as a short term weight loss plan. You can lose weight simply by not eating solid foods for 10 days, and cleansing your colon. But if you go back to your lifestyle, as with most “diets” the weight returns, and we all know yo-yo dieting is unhealthy.

I am anxious to try other juice and vegetable fasts, to compare the results.

can't wait to cleanse again

Preface: it is going to be hard for me not to be gross when commenting upon the Master Cleanse, because the gross parts were the best parts. From the morning saltwater cleanse to the evening laxative tea and the multitude of cayenne lemonade in between, it was an amazing experience. I felt so energized in the mornings because my body wasn't spending the whole evening prior digesting dinner. It was a refreshing concept. Over the course of those ten days, I cried over a cookie and dreamed about burritos more than once...but made it through. And if I can do it, anyone else out there can do it. In fact, I recommend it, as it was frankly amazing how much stuff was coming out when there was really nothing going in!! The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because it was HARD to go without food for 10 days, plus I had bad intestinal cramping a couple days. Check out the URL above for more information from Stanley Burroughs, the brain where it all began. Drink up kids!
