When I went to the San Francisco GreenFest today, I was offered a free copy of The Nation magazine. "Which issue is better," I asked the guy at the booth.
"They're all really good," he replied. But then my eye caught the magazine's special Food Issue and I was hooked.
I LOVE food! Especially edible food. This issue had articles by Alice Waters, Francis Moore Lappe and Jim Hightower. Now wait a minute. Jim Hightower is an expert on food? What? But apparently he is.
According to Hightower, the people who are making America's food decisions "are people who could not run a watermelon stand if we gave them the melons and had the Highway Patrol flag down the customers for them -- yet they have taken charge of the decisions that direct everything from how and when food is grown to what our children eat in schcol." Go Jim!
Having raised four children on school cafeteria food, I couldn't agree more. The Nation's special Food Issue just won my heart.
