Thought Provoking

This is a great book to read if you wish to familiarize yourself with the "big picture" of industrialization from 1800 to present, and where the "1st world" is headed next. If it isn't obvious to everyone already, we are in a carbon-scarce world with ever-increasing crude oil prices (with attendant rise of costs for gasoline, plastics, fertilizer for food you eat, transportation of food to your grocery store, winter heating oil on the East coast, etc). Heinberg outlines the case for why the oil-consuming miracle bubble is about to pop, or at least deflate, and why there is no silver bullet. For a similar rendition in one JPEG, see: http://www.theoildrum.com/node/2186 The follow-up book, Powerdown, covers solutions in more detail. This book was on Bill Clinton's reading list last summer. Quick, easy read!
