The Secret is Dangerous
Let's get a few things out of the way first - I really like the positive message in The Secret. Most of the reviews of this DVD so far have dealt with the good aspects - if you truly focus on something and want to achieve a goal, there is a much better chance that you will actually achieve that goal. I like this not only as a spiritual philosophy, but I also like the physics behind it - I think there is definitely truth to this, and that truth has been demonstrated both philosophically and physically.
So what is my problem with it you say?
I am glad you asked. My problem with this philosophy is not when it is applied to oneself, but when it is applied to others. The same truth that states that if you concentrate on something it will come, also implies that that if someone else doesn't have something, it's because they didn't want it enough. Like I said, i believe in the theory behind The Secret. That being said, if you are a poor black child living in New Orleans, and I am a rich white kid living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and we both envision Porsches in our future, there is a significantly higher chance that I will get that Porsche. This is a fact. Envisioning your goals is only one of many factors that determines how your life will turn out.
Before I get a slew of angry comments telling me how no one who follows the principles of The Secret could ever apply its logic in the way I just described, lets consider Oprah, ostensibly THE unofficial spokesperson of The Secret. Following her creation of a $40 million school in Africa, she was asked why she didn't donate money to help educate poor children in America. Her response was that the children (I repeat CHILDREN) in inner city schools wanted ipods and sneakers, not uniforms for school, so she wasn't going to donate money there. If that isn't proof of my point, I don't know what is.

an open mind is needed to understand and accept this message. I was so taken by this film, I bought the dvd and wanted to send one to all of my friends, acquaintances and coworkers, spread the message as far as I could. This film may not appeal to some, it can be hokey at times, and the production may seem over-dramatized, but the inherent message found within this movie and movement is what is so important.
Positivity and faith, intention and energy, these are all tied together imho. If you have seen this movie (which I believe is better than the book) and want to explore deeper into this subject matter, into the quantum physics behind it, rent “What the Bleep!? - Down the Rabbit Hole”. The Bleep movie actually demonstrates the science behind this energy-intention relationship, which I find utterly fascinating.
And ultimately even if this message doesn’t reach you just yet, you have absolutely nothing to lose by being positive and adopting these ideas. I think the power of these ideas can help change the world, if everyone was aware of them, and I thank the producers of this film, for trying to spread this message.

it really does work
Oprah Winfrey said, "You can have everything you want, just not all at once." Some call it persistence, others call it the law of attraction. This film will inspire you to be all that you can be and to turn your dreams up a notch and embody them unwaveringly. To paraphrase Goethe, "There is magic in commitment. The whole universe will conspire to help you get that which you've committed to." Whether or not you believe in it doesn't matter. Whether or not you understand it doesn't matter. It really does work.

Manifest Everything You've Ever Wanted
"The Secret" is a great DVD that covers the simple assertion that what you hold as intention, becomes reality. It's been said many ways before, by many different people, but the essence is the same. Thoughts and emotions actually determine outcomes. The sheer energy that we put behind ideas, creates the reality. This is the message of the movie. I can tell you that I have tried this, and it works. I can't explain it to you, but if you hold deep within yourself an image and feeling of success, happiness, good health, etc., it will become yours. For a good companion read, check out my review on "The Field." If you have an open mind to considering that we don't actually control everything, and that there is some universal energy that flows through all life, and that it is possible to access this energy, then you will truly enjoy The Secret.
