I am not sure how I feel about this campaign. I like their commercials, but so far I haven't seen a lot of meaningful action come out of this INCREDIBLY well funded campaign. Then there is the fact that it is so closely associated with Al Gore. I have my own beef with Al - namely the fact that he gave millions and millions of taxpayer dollars to the Detroit auto companies to design a hybrid vehicle, then negotiating a deal in which they didn't actually have to manufacture one - but there is no doubt that An Inconvenient Truth is singlehandedly the reason why Global Warming is finally on the US political/pop-culture stage. The problem I think is that Al Gore, deservedly or not, is such an easy target for the naysayers and deniers out there. I would argue that it is mostly undeserved, but the fact of the matter is that as long as these right wing pundits and wackos can keep hammering away at the fact that Al Gore owns a car and that he lives (or lived) in a house that used up more energy than the vast majority of Americans, they can keep us all from talking about the real importance of his message.
I think that we need to salute Al Gore, acknowledge his contribution to American awareness of climate change, and then ask him very politely to get off the stage. Oh, and take HIS campaign with him, or at least drop his affiliation.
What do YOU think?

Scientific fact is to lead the charge? Unassailable scientific fact will take us into a brighter future? Wasn't there a Republican presidential debate during which a majority of candidates declared that they don't... more »
