"Fresh" breath doesn't have to be minty. You don't need peppermint to have clean teeth. This was the first non-peppermint toothpaste I ever tried and I found it fantastic. Other people think - "eww"!
Toothpaste is one of those things that will surprise you -- people have very strong feelings about what is "right". In the US, people think it needs to be minty. In Italy, people think it needs to be sweet -- yes, that's right -- every toothpaste has some artificial sweetener, like sorbitol or anything -ol, and the pharmacist will look at you funny if you ask for something unsweetened.
This leaves your mouth clean and refreshed without totally destroying your ability to taste anything but peppermint for hours. I think you can safely drink orange juice after brushing your teeth with this ginger toothpaste. For something really different - break out of your culturally prescribed beliefs about toothpaste flavors. The children's strawberry is pretty good, too!

I'm a huge fan of this company. The toothpaste is all natural, free of colorings, and the company is highly green, even after the recent purchase by Colgate-Palmolive. Also, not all of their products contain sodium laurel sulphate, which many people are allergic to, probably without even knowing it. It took my girlfriend years to figure out she was allergic to SLS, which is a harsh detergent that the highly sensitive often react to. The good thing is that you can find Tom's now in most supermarkets. The ginger kind is my favorite, although I don't think you can really go wrong. But be prepared to spend an extra dollar or two per tube
