Mulch Alternative Keeps Rubber Out of Our Landfills!

We've been trying to think of other solutions besides paving roads to keep more rubber tires our of our landfills...and today, I learned of an exclusive product through Gardener's Supply Company (GSC) that's found another use for our tires...Recycled Rubber Mulch. Recycled Rubber Tree Rings not only last longer than bark and control weeds better, but they don't put acids into the soil nor do the hinder nutrients, water and air from reaching the roots. There are two color options (walnut and redwood) and a choice of five sizes: from 20" to 60" diameters. Larger rings come in sections. The center hole of the ring can be enlarged to accommodate variations in tree trunk size. You can even run over them with a lawn mower without reeking havoc. According to GSC, we Americans are retiring more than 300 million tires per year. So far GSC customers have prevented 896 tons of rubber from ending up in landfills. Price ranges from $18.95 to $79.95. GSC also sells rubber mulch edge borders, round and square stepping stones, and interlocking pavers that resemble brick.
