Indoor/Outdoor brunch and dinner restaurant featuring as organic and environmentally sustainable ingredients.
Address map 2814 19th StI first went to Universal Cafe in 1996 - it was a favorite neighborhood place of my boyfriend at the time, just between Potrero Hill and the Mission "proper" in an area called the "Trans Mission" at the time. I was in love with the chalk board menus, the steel and glass and cement interior - and most of all, the outdoor tables for those warm nights that we love so well about that part of San Francisco (where you can see the fog over other parts of town but it doesn't chill you!).
Their food is always high quality and they focus on organic ingredients -- they are pretty good about working with vegetarians and vegans. It's a great first date place if you want to impress someone.
