Fantastic wines, personable owner

Unti Vineyards was our first stop on a tour of Dry Creek Valley Wine Country in April -- and it was arguably the best stop of our whole day. Perhaps the best stop of any vineyards my friends and I have visited in 2-3 years of annual wine tasting trips.

Owner George Unti was friendly, informative, laid back and respectful. He had a great way of interacting with our group of 8 -- and was patient and thoughtful in our conversation. The time just flew by and we all came away with some great information about wine.

George has slowly been converting all of his vineyard over to biodynamic processes. He admitted, "Some of it sounds like a bit of hocus pocus" because it requires paying attention to the moon cycles and such, but that it isn't much different than farmers who rely on Farmer's Almanac to plant and harvest their crops.

He said, "All biodynamic wine is organic, even if they aren't getting a specific certification, but not all organic wine is biodynamic."

The wines were great -- I splurged on a half case of barbera, syrah and segromigno -- my friends all ended up buying wine there, too. Highly recommended as your first -- or only -- stop in Dry Creek Valley.
