Learn to Love Walking to Work!

I love walking to work. I used to commute for 30-45 minutes one way down to the peninsula every day. Then I found a job in the city and get to walk to work now. Every morning, I walk out my door and just keep walking and ...love it. I love how I just get to move my legs and get to work in 30 minutes - and it's sustainable!! yey!!!

San Francisco is made for walking!

I usually take the bus or carpool to San Francisco -- so I make sure I get my share of walking instead of hopping on a bus like many people do. The city is so small & safe -- it's not difficult to get to where you are going on foot, fairly quickly. Your own two feet are your best means of transportation!

I am a college student. I don’t walk from my house to work. However, I was able to get a job on campus. So, I am able to combine my classes and work into one trip. I also have arranged all of my work and class times into 3 days so I only have to drive 6 times per week (there and back).

There is one thing everyone who drives to work can do that makes a difference. When I go to school/work I park in the first campus parking lot I come to. It is on the very edge of campus so I never have to worry about my space being taken. Then I ride my razor scooter everywhere I need to go around campus. (My scooter gets me around relatively quickly and when I get where I am going I just fold it up and carry it around with me while I am in buildings.)

I’ve done some test drives and I save .1 to .3 miles of driving each time I go to or from campus. If you multiply that by weekdays, it equates to an extra .5 to 1.5 miles per week (5 days)… 2 to 6 extra miles of driving per month (4 weeks)… 24 to 72 extra miles per year (12 months)…

This is simple to do.
