Wash Your Car in the Rain

by Adam W.

Why didn't I think of this before?

I just found this super cool tip on Instructables.com and I can't believe have never though of this before. We waste so much water when we wash our cars - why not use the rain to do it for us? Just head out into a rainstorm (not a serious one) whip out your bucket and eco-friendly soap, wash your car, and let the rain do the rest of the work for you! What a novel and yet totally intuitive idea!

Well - almost.

Having used this technique many times, I've found that the typical northern California rainstorm isn't going to completely eliminate the need for a hose. Unless you want the result to be a truly strange looking car, you'll need to give it a manual rinse before you stop.

There's an advantage to doing this that hasn't been discussed so far. Picture it - the day after a storm and you're the only person on the road driving a clean car, the owner of the only shiny object in the parking lot. No, it's not a substitute for winning the lottery, but you have to take those little lifts where you find them.
