Seafood restaurant that serves locally grown vegetables, and fish that is primarily farmed and sustainable.
Address map 2193 Mission StYou don't generally expect a restaurant with an animal in the title to be so vegan-friendly, but Weird Fish has something for everyone. In addition to their fishy dishes they have a number of veggie options, which all rotate. They make "fish sticks" out of tempeh, seitain, or tofu depending on the day. My favorite is the latter. If you haven't had your fill of fried foods, the fried pickles are also amazing, as well as their mix of regular and sweet potato fries.
They make a great vegan brunch as well, frequently offering breakfast tacos and vegan pancakes. I've never had a bad meal here. All their ingredients are so fresh and from what I've read it sounds like they're really committed to fresh, local, sustainable ingredients.

ok, i didn't hate this place. the ambience was super cool and i liked all the people that worked there. i heard they purchased their fish from socially responsible fish farms (not entirely sure i'm right about that), and wanted to check out their new digs in my neighborhood.
when it comes down to it, the food just wasn't that great. i went twice and both times i was disappointed. i ordered an oyster po' boy the first time, and it was soggy. the second time, fish n' chips, and it was extremely greasy and not super flavorful.
i think if they just work with their food a little bit, this place could be kick ass. everything is seemed awesome, to me.

My roomie suggested I try out this new restaurant in the Mission not only because it has a cute atmosphere, delicious, affordable AND seafood, but apparently also sustainable seafood that won't break the bank...and I'll tell you right now, I was convinced it was impossible until last night. WEIRD FISH has lots of veggie sides to accompany the great fish of the day specials and it was so cheap I was compelled to treat. Also, they have an amazing oyster po'boy that's almost as good as my grandma used to make!. I say try the "suspiciously delicious fish dish"...hhmm turned to mmmm.
