Address map 1726 Haight StThe San Francisco Green Business seal means City and County of San Francisco auditors have verified that a business complies with strict environmental standards to reduce waste, prevent pollution and conserve resources.
Unfortunately, like many corporations, Wells Fargo has a bad record of greenwashing. They are among the top financiers of environmental destruction dirty energy, including coal, mining and logging.
In reality, if you want to make sure that you don't put your money into a service that f*cks up the environment, my advice is a credit union, and even then, you should do some research.

Not many people know this, but the Haight St. branch of Wells Fargo which just opened a few months ago is the 1st (and almost the only, other than New Resources Bank, I think) green certified bank in San Francisco. Also, Wells Fargo is the biggest corporate purchaser of wind power in the world. Their customer service is golden, and they do the right thing as a company, which is why they've been around so long and over the last few years have done so well for their shareholders. Also, they do a lot of good things in their local communities. For example, in SF they help support the Glide Foundation.
