Not the store we need in Berkeley

OK selection, but way to expensive. Not for nothing is it called Whole Paycheck. It's part of a large corporate chain. I could do without it in Berkeley.

Whole foods

Embarrassing enough, I didn't know of WHOLE FOODS when I first moved to the South Bay. But I was very impressed with the food quality and variety of organic food they offer in the store. Once I shopped at WHOLE FOODS, I can't go back in buying in a regular supermarket.

The people there are very helpful, too.

Whole Foods

Part Two Of Review- To go further in this critique, CEO and founder John Mackey is a radically anti-labor fellow. As is most of the tide these days. He has likened unions to Ants and has shut down stores who have attempted to Unionize. He has hired Union-busting lawyers to quell any sort of formal organizing. (See www.wholeworkersunite.org for more information) Also, some short asides, the Organic standard they pioneered as legislative law favors their colossal economic situation. The smaller outlets of local stores cannot compete. The people in the deli, who cook all day, are not allowed to take home the extra food they cook. They are forced to throw it out (in the compost bins) all the food that could better feed their families. The argument for this is Health Regulations. However, dented cans are sold for 10cents, as well as open cereal boxes and health supplements. Day old pastries are also done in this 10cent fashion in the back. The malady that Whole Foods perpetuates goes further and deeper than anything I could summarize here. They do accomplish some good in the communities they serve. But Whole Foods is not the be all and end all of the Organic food movement. Please I plead support your local health food store or farmers market. Thank you.

Whole Foods

Whole Foods Market is an abomination of the green business model. Their unsustainable business plan of exponential growth, with the opening of at least 6 in the Bay Area, is unaltered, but aside from that they have created the illusion that eating healthy is for the upper crust of society. The oft heard joke Whole paycheck is not only fitting, it is a definition of the underlying problem of Whole Foods in our shaky, outdated, failing, economy. I am of the idea that this healthy food should be affordable for all. It was before the emergence of factory and or subsidized farming after World War two. Whole Foods strong-arms out local health food co ops in small towns, though whether this is deliberate or not is up for argument. They have, also, in the past cut ties with local producers. It was not till recently that they welcomed back en mass these and more local producers. What forced this shift is actually surprising; Wal-Mart took their major distributors. Their Green Mission is more of a front than a plan of action. Without stating specifics there are people with good hearts who work there, and do live on some level of a green existence, the majority are there for a job, this goes into the upper management. While understandable, it is disheartening. Upper management who have the ability to take BART to their head office in Emeryville would rather drive their Land Rover's than even attempt to restructure their lives in such a small and, arguably, rewarding way. continued in another review by me.

Great New Store in Los Altos

Whole foods have a bountiful selection of gourmet and natural foods. The wonderful products are worth the somewhat expensive price.

Whole Foods Market on Telegraph

I don't even question myself now when I have to do my grocery shopping ... There, I find all kind of organic products and more than that, most of their products are locally grown, therefore it is truly good for our earth...
