We recently received a Melissa and Doug piano for our son's first birthday. Great design, but very poorly made. It broke completely into pieces in my girlfriends hands as she was moving it. It was held together by wood pegs without wood glue. Very poorly crafted. Their customer service is decent. They sent a new piano. Although it took a few weeks for it to get to us. I opened the new piano today and it is already falling apart at the wooden pegs. I suggest looking for locally hand made wooden toys. They may cost a little more, but they will be worth it. My son loves all of his wooden toys and they don't fall apart in your hands.

Interesting comments section. I find it interesting that after three sub par posts about Melissa and Doug products, there are three very similarly written posts all with 5 stars. Looks a little suspicious. Buyer Beware!!!

It's worth checking out http://toysnotmadeinchina.org The approach is to sell ONLY toys that are NOT made in China. As a result, when you go the site, you will see that Melissa & Doug do not make the cut. It's an Amazon powered stored and they provide descriptions from many of the companies they carry, which is helpful.

Something to think about with Melissa and Doug is that they are a rather large corporation. Their name fools a lot of people into thinking they are a small mom and pop deal, but that's not the case. Yes, they have some very nice toys, but over all their quality is not always the greatest. All their toys are manufactured in China, which is not necessarily a problem, but I certainly would not count Melissa and Doug as one of the many companies who take great pains to ensure their products are safe. They changed the company name a few years ago from Lights, Camera, Interaction to M&D which gives it a friendlier feel, but they have had problems with quality control and other issues in the past. I suppose the point i want to make here is that it's unwise to assume that everything they make is safe. I'd much rather buy from a company like the German toy manufacturer Haba. They have a wide range of products, and their wood toys are made primarily, if not exclusively, in Europe. Selecta spielzeug is another good, but usually more pricey, option.

I do like their toys but I wonder how eco they are and where the toys are made. I would think they are made in China. Also, the quality has decreased since they became so mainstream.

We own a lot of Melissa and Doug toys. The products are well made, promote creative play, and reasonable priced. I had an issue with some large wooden beads and my problems were promptly addressed and resolved by the company.

Melissa and Doug has to be about the best wooden toys around. They have a large selection of trains, puzzles, etc. that are sturdy and very well made.

I love the Melissa and Doug line of wooden toys. They are creative and colorful. We have a huge collection at home. We look like a toy store run by Melissa and Doug. LOL.
