CREDO--a miserable experience

Nightmare--I switched from Verizon even though I had gotten excellent service because it seemed like an easy way to do a good thing. I've been with CREDO for 6 weeks now and it has been a nightmare. the final straw was today when I opened my bill to find that I owed $76 in roaming charges for calls I had made to places 5-6 miles a way! But calls 500 miles away were in-network. Apparently new phones are set to pick on the nearest tower not the nearest Sprint tower (the network they use). Credo could set the phones to "home" towers and this wouldn't happen, but they don't. the rep said "this happens a lot". The customer service lady said it explained it in the start up paperwork that was sent me. the problem is, when I signed up, the nice customer service lady said when I got my phone to charge it for 24 hours and then call and they'd take me show me the features-- get me all up and running etc. No mention of the roaming thing and who reads through all the paperwork you get with a phone anyhow? I told her that now that I understood I'd set my phone to "home" but II asked for credit for the calls already charged. The best she would do even after speaking to a supervisor is 50%. This is just the latest. I spent TEN day's trying to get my texting and picture capabilities working. They reprogarmmed my phone 4 times, taking 4 hours each time. NOBODY had a clue what they were doing but they were awfully good natured and concerned while they were being inept. Ultimately the problem was they had assigned my phone a picture package that only worked with something called a smart phone (not what I have) and one more 4 hour reprogramming and one more night with out my phone and it was finally fixed. I said I wanted compensation for all my time they had wasted, a total of 4 hours on hold and 4 nights of lost phone usage and they said they could send me a Ben and Jerry's gift cert.--never got it. I can't tell you how aggravating this whole experience has been.

Working Assets Wireless is now CREDO Mobile

In November 2007 we rebranded Working Assets Wireless as CREDO Mobile, a service of Working Assets. We're still the same great progressive phone company, led by the same people with the same strong beliefs fighting to support peace, human rights, and the environment. Our donations to progressive causes, our mission to build a better world and our first-rate customer service is all the same. We changed our name to CREDO Mobile to tell the world what we're all about, to continue growing our customers and our movement for progressive change. Because "credo" means belief and belief is at the hear of everything we do. The belief we can make the world a better place through great phone service. As CREDO, we'll be reaching more people and working even harder for progressive change.

CREDO Mobile has it's own review section here on SustainLane. Please check us out there to add to the conversation and to see what our customers and fans are saying.

Creedo Rocks

I don't have a mobile phone, so I can't really say how their service is there, but if it is anything like their long distance service, it rocks! I used them since they were Working Assets and the quality and price of service were second to none. In addition, we got 12 free pints of Ben and Jerry's to boot. I got free calls to my then-boyfriend, now husband for 10 months while we lived on opposite sides of the country, just for getting him to switch. Unfortunately we had to give them up when we had to switch to an internet phone due to the poor quality of our local provider. Recently, they (Creedo) sent us a bill for some calls that we did make, but had made from the internet phone. My husband called and they gladly took care of everything with one call. Then, two weeks later, a personal letter of apology was sent from their customer service was sent to explain any confusion that may have been caused. I have always felt they extend all their effort to help whenever you need. Not only that, but they give a portion of your bill to charities that you get to vote for, use recycled paper for any mailing... I could go on and on.

CREDO mobile is a nightmare

CREDO may give to progressive causes, but personally I have never been treated so badly by a company in my life. I feel as if someone has walked into my home and robbed me at gun point. I have been using Working Assets (CREDO's former name) for almost 7 years, so it's not like I tried them on a whim and am dissatisfied. In the last year I have battled them about my cellphone bill. They left information out, neglected to tell me hidden costs, and in the past week have flat out lied about dates and services. They claim a request I've made about changing my plan (changes I was originally told were going to be made) came weeks afterwards, allowing them to overcharge me for a full month. They neglected to call me when a problem arose about processing something with my account... which allowed them once again to keep charging me at a higher rate. The costumer service rep all but called me a liar when I called and tried to work it out with them. I asked why they didn't call me when the problem arose... and I was stunned when the rep said, "Well, ma'am, there was no note to call you." Why would a business not contact you when a problem arose??? A problem that was due to a mistake THEY made no less! I feel abused and swindled. It's like they can say whatever they want and charge me whatever they want because they know I have no recourse. I'm just one person and I can't higher a lawyer just for a cellphone bill... even if what they have overcharged me is quickly approaching $1000.

I'm not one to moan and complain. And writing this review makes me very sad as my best friend works for one of the organizations that they give to. But for all the good they do, I have never experienced a more unethical company.

If you want to support progressive causes, then do it without CREDO. In the end they will take you for every penny they can.

CREDO works for me.

I have had CREDO (or Working Assets) mobile service since it became available in the area where I live. The reception and customer service are both excellent, just as my long distance service has always been with my land line through Working Assets. I particularly like the fact that the company donates so much to liberal causes that members are allowed to choose with their votes. The only drawbacks with CREDO are the higher rates and lack of competitive business and family rates. Because of those two drawbacks, it is difficult to convince people to sign on to their services. But I'm staying with CREDO.

Credo long distance service

I think that Credo is the same company that used to be Working Assets Long Distance--I'm not sure if it's the same as the mobile service that others have written reviews on.........but
I've used Credo/Working Assets for quite a few years now because they donate a portion of all profits to a number of NGO's and charitable foundations. Each year we (individuals) get to choose which of the list of organizations we would like to support and what percentage of our donations should go to each of our choices.
They are not the absolute cheapest long distance service (now that the bigger companies are so competitive) but their service is great and they are competitively priced considering what you get in return--the chance to make a great difference to many in our global family.
Thank you for all you do.

Switch to Credo!

I just made my switch to Credo and couldn't be happier. Yes, it's kind of a pain to switch phone companies, but they are willing to do a lot to make it easier, such as pay for your contract cancellation fee on your other phone (up to $200), negotiate getting your current phone number, and they also send a mailing label to send your old phone to a non-profit that reuses them!

Seriously, with AT&T and other big companies giving our information to the government and letting them listen in on our conversations, I think something like Credo is a godsend! Also, 1% of the costs of your minutes spent goes towards a non-profit, which is just an added bonus

Great Idea

I really do think this is a great idea - i like companies that are finding innovative ways to do good in the world. That being said, I don't really think this is a product that we "needed" right now. Unlike something like Better World Club vs AAA, phone companies aren't really that bad (well, you can say they are bad for giving away private info to the US government, but that is kind of a different story).

overall - i think it is cool, but i am in no huge rush to switch over from AT&T

great service

Whenever I had a problem I could expect friendly and effective response and guidance. They are just the opposite of the corporate long distance who try to screw you every time.

Working Assets Long Distance

I first tried Working Assets as they were offering TWELVE MONTHS of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. And they were a company that put a percentage of their money to important socially conscious concerns - that the customers get to choose and vote on!

As an aside, their pricing is reasonable.
Not really an aside - this is important !

When assisting at another business, I took the opportunity to move their phone business to Working Assets Long Distance.

A friend, who worked for the local phone company, recommended them. He asked for the phone bills, to see if he could work a deal.

Some months, Working Assets actually gave a credit. He was incredulous, "How can they do that!"

Needless to say, he couldn't come up with a better deal than Working Assets, and he was a phone company 'insider.'

I still love him, but Working Assets Long Distance has been a good deal, for myself, and for other businesses I've interacted with.

Recommended - check pricing with other providers. And check what they ALSO do with a percentage of their profits.

Working Assets kicks butt

I love Working Assets - they offer creative ways to feel connected to social change and green issues plus raising money for those causes all through products and services that we all pay for anyway. The only downside is when the big corporations come out with special bundled services packages; it's hard to compete with that.

Make the connection

Working Assets does far more than establish telephone connections. It also connects its members with a network that encompasses a wide range of progressive causes. Working Assets fosters and facilitates involvement in political activism, voting rights, and the promotion of equity and justice.. Last week, this Working Assets member served as a volunteered at a local polling place, thanks to as assist from Working Assets.

Gives something back

I really like the idea of company's that donate a portion of their revenue to nonprofits. Also I'd rather support them than the big telecom companies who work against most of the causes that we give money too. Great customer service and comparable service to the big guys.
