How to Use the Site

How do I write a review?

You must be a SustainLane member to write a review. Once you've signed up and are logged in, click "write a review" in the navigation bar. Then, search for the product or business you want to review. Select an existing product or business listing, or if you can't find what you want to review in our database, add it yourself.

You can also write a review by clicking any "review this" button on any listing page on the site.

How do I edit my reviews?

You can edit your reviews by going to your own profile page. The easiest way to get to your profile page is by clicking "My Profile" which appears at the far right of the site's navigation bar. Once on your profile page, find the review you'd like to edit, and click the "edit my review" which appears in the top right area of each review.

How do I delete one of my reviews?

To delete a review, please email community (at) SustainLane.com, and our support team will assist you.

How do I review something that isn't already listed on the site?

If you can't find what you want to review through searching the site, you can add a new listing to our directory. You can add a listing by clicking "add a listing" on the bottom of any search results page.

How do I edit a listing?

Any logged in SustainLane member is allowed and encouraged to edit our listings to improve accuracy. To edit a listing, click the "edit listing" link which is in the bottom right corner of every listing. All edits are reviewed by our team for accuracy, and posted as soon as possible.

My Account / Privacy

How do I change my password?

To change your password, first go to your profile by clicking "My Profile" which appears at the far right of the site's navigation bar. Once on your profile, click "edit account info" which will take you to a form where you can update your password. To do this you'll have to verify your existing password, and enter the password you'd like to replace it with.

What personal information can others see about me?

The only information we share about you with others is your first name and last initial, and we will never disclose a user's last name. All other information we collect is strictly for our records. If you'd prefer to remain completely anonymous, you are welcome to edit your first name to a pseudonym by editing your account information which can be reached by viewing your own profile.

What does SustainLane do with my personal information?

All of your personal information is stored in our secure database. We do not disclose it with any other entities.

How do I change my account information?

To edit your account information, first go to your profile by clicking "My Profile" which appears at the far right of the site's navigation bar. Once on your profile, click "edit account info" which will take you to a form where you can edit your name, location, password, and newsletter subscription preferences.

How do I change my email address?

To change your email address, please email community (at) SustainLane.com and our support team will assist you in this change.

How do I cancel my membership?

To cancel your membership, please email community (at) SustainLane.com and our support team will assist you promptly.

How do I unsubscribe from SustainLane newsletters?

Each newsletter includes a simple unsubscribe link in the footer which allows you to remove yourself from our subscriber list. In addition, you can unsubscribe to newsletters by visiting your edit account info page, which can be reached through your own profile. To get to your profile, click "My Profile" which is located at the far right of the site's navigation bar.

What are the criteria for being listed in SustainLane's directory?

Unlike traditional green directories, SustainLane does not have a green "screen" or require certification to be listed. Businesses that offer green products or services are welcome to list themselves in our directory.

Can anyone edit my listing?

Yes, but we review all edits for accuracy before they are displayed on the site.

Can I review my own listing?

Generally it is best if you let others do the talking. To protect the integrity of the user reviews, we suggest that you do not anonymously review your own listing. It's much more effective to respond to a review by posting another review and identifying yourself as the owner of the business.

What if someone writes a negative review of my business?

Occasionally we all get less than stellar feedback. But this is actually an opportunity to make adjustments to your business and build even stronger loyalty.

You will find the reviews are a valuable tool in staying in touch with what is working with your business and what may need some improvement. And if you find it necessary, you can write a review from yourself in response to another review. This is great way to set the record straight or tell everyone about the improvements that you have made.

Remember: always identify yourself as the owner or manager of the business.

Do you ever remove reviews from the site?

Yes. In a few situations we find it necessary. That said, we do not resolve disputes and/or remove reviews just because a business doesn't like what someone has written. Our view is that differences of opinion are best worked out in the reviews.
