How We Rated Cities
Data was collected from the Texas Transportation Institute's 2007 Urban Mobility Report (Texas A&M).
Rankings were based on metro region public transit ridership miles and square miles per region.
The Top 10 cities boast an impressive amount of public transit ridership. Roughly the next ten cities have lower, thought still significant, public transit use. The rest of the cities in our study have very low public transit use, although it is increasing from previous years. With the recent installation of shiny new light rail systems in Charlotte, Seattle and Phoenix, along with expansion of other cities' existing systems, we expect future transit use numbers to rise mightily.

Perhaps it will so determine them until the last ton of fossilized coal is burnt. —Max Weber
